Adrian was born in Bradford on the 24th January, 1957. He is the second of four children and was one years old when the family left for Cyprus and then moved onto Bahrain and Uganda.  He was sent to Pocklington, a Yorkshire public school and then onto Manchester University to study drama where he met Rik Mayall.

He is married Jennifer Saunders (in 1985), they have three children Ella, Beatrice, and Freya.
